Cllr Maria Higson
is one of three Conservative councillors for Hampstead Town, London Borough of Camden. Maria was elected in May 2018.
"I work in the NHS and am committed to better public services, especially for health and social care. As a local Councillor, I sit on the Health and Adult Social Care Scrutiny Committee, and have fought to ensure Camden residents continue to have a say in the running of our healthcare.
A firm believer in the power of engagement and community provision to enhance care, I have written about the opportunities and limitations of technology in supporting services, and the need to empower local providers to drive change.
I have also campaigned for better provision of services for those spiralling into Council-owned debt, and am proud that new services have now been put into place, protecting some of the most vulnerable residents.
An animal-lover from a young age, I was also instrumental in the introduction of Camden Council's Animal Welfare Charter, providing better protection for pets and wildlife in the Borough.
I have spent time volunteering for three homeless charities, and continue to be inspired by the work being undertaken to help people in crisis turn their lives around. I'm a liberal Conservative and I believe passionately in rolling up my sleeves to help the worst-off."
