Cllr Gio Spinella – Frognal and Fitzjohns

Frognal & Fitzjohns Councillor

I have been proud to represent you on Camden Council the last eight years.

I am part-Welsh, part-Sicilian, born in the UK and have lived in New York, Rome, London, Palermo, Milan and Luxembourg before coming back to London, Camden, where I’ve lived ever since. My Sicilian grandfather, Giovanni- for whom I am named- was a Socialist who was sent to prison by the Italian Fascists in the 1920s. My Welsh grandfather Trevor- my middle name- served in the 8th Army in World War 2 and was a Conservative association chairman in Bromley, counting Margaret and Dennis Thatcher amongst their members.

As your councillor I have worked closely with residents’ groups and families, tackling issues such as conservation, planning and traffic. I have also worked closely with the numerous nascent Neighbourhood Forums in our ward. Frognal & Fitzjohns is a wonderful ward, with lovely historic buildings and gorgeous hidden gardens. Our residents are engaged and well-informed people, highly committed to their neighbourhoods and their community.

On the council I have served on the Health Scrutiny Committee, the Culture and Environment Committee and on panels looking at tenant participation and community cohesion. I currently serve on the licensing panel.

I am a city professional with experience also as a freelance fiction writer and journalist. I am a governor at UCS, a trustee of the Philological Society and a member of the Howard League for Penal Reform.
