Cllr Chris Knight - Hampstead Town

Moving to Hampstead in 1974 I fell in love with the area. I have lived here ever since. My wife Julie and I found it a fantastic place in which to live, work and raise a family. For many years I ran my business from Hampstead and our son James attended Christchurch Primary.

I am the Executive Member for Environment on Camden. This means I work on issues that you care about. As your local Councillor, I’ve worked with local residents’ associations and schools to develop plans for school bus bays to reduce congestion and pollution, while preserving, and sometimes increasing, residents’ parking spaces. Parking is a big issue here - I promise to continue my work to make it fairer for residents and traders alike.

Climate change, carbon and waste reduction are priorities of mine. I’ve campaigned for the introduction of Electric Car charge points and Car Club bays in Hampstead, and also across Camden. I represent Camden on the London Electric Vehicles Partnership - a group working to increase people’s access to alternative fuels. As Camden’s rep on the North London Waste Authority, I am working to control our waste, increase recycling and slash landfill use.

I’m currently working for Camden to get tougher on building works - especially basement developments. They threaten the unique character of Hampstead, ruin neighbours’ lives while being built, and can wreck our underground drainage environment. We live in an incredibly special area and I’m determined to maintain its unique character and charm.
